Even a small effort put into researching Magellan on the internet should scare you enough to prevent you from purchasing a Magellan GPS. However I did not do any research and I am now paying for my lack of diligence. Let me explain.
1. Magellan 400 explorist - Unit failed while in the field on or about November 12 of 2007.
2. Shipped FedEx on Nov 16/07 to a repair center in TX.
I was advised at that time that it would be a 21 day turn around time.
3. I called on 12/11 for an update - They had no information and I was told to call back in a week.
4. Called back on 17/07 and was advised it takes41 days to repair and return, call back then and they refused to provide me with any additional information as to the current status of my unit.

This is "par" for Magellan if you do a bit of research into this company’s customer service history. They hide behind a curtain of secrecy by not providing any information that gets you to someone who can actually help you. Additionally it is next to impossible to understand some of the customer service people who you get connected to.

My suggestion would me to stay as far away from Magellan as possible. If for some reason you can not, I hope you get a good unit and don’t have to deal with what they call customer service!
