I think I was scammed. This company contacted me August of 2010 to assist w/ a loan modification. I did research on the modification program through the government and spent over 4 months talking with this company. While not 100% comfortable with things, I moved forward. They came back very quickly after receiving my 6 page application with a reduction in my mortgage of over $400. The approval was on Bank of America letter head. First Universal had me send the new mortgage amount to them and send my escrow separately to BOA, which I did. They indicated once they got the check, paperwork similar to that of a refinance would be sent to me. At first they indicated it would be overnighted, when I didn't receive it immediately, I was told it was in regular mail. A week after, I still have not received it. They have cashed my check, and BOA has no reference. My mortgage (on which we have always been current), is now overdue. I have notified BOA of the potential scam but that won't erase any black mark on my credit if one appears.
The individual I was working with was CLUELESS about the process, gave me the most ridiculous excuses for things and would NOT provide me any other contact person to better explain the situation. The number listed on their website does not work. I am seeking legal action against them.
Unless you are prepared to seek legal council, DO NOT USE THIS FIRM!
