I am very upset with this company, F.I.R.E. Financial Independence And Resource Education, Inc. that represents they will help people in financial trouble.
My experience: I inquired, I was told to sign up on line and that I would get a package in the mail to read through and decide if I was going to do it. We read the info, it looked ok, the BBB info seemed ok/no complaints or bad reviews.
Well low & behold, when I sent in a signed document the company finally called me backed and the answers I received at that time were not what I was told and lead to believe prior, so we canceled the account - within 3 days of legal contract law. When I told them on the phone that I was canceling, the representative NEVER said anything about fees, etc..
I never sent any paperwork out to the creditors (the contract said F.I.R.E. can't do anything without the accounts being closed and receiving the returned receipts and having our signatures MAILED to them - so we decided NOT to go through with it - called & faxed our cancellation and never went through with it.
I just received a call tonight stating that by going online and filling out the application (which is what I was told it was, an application) that I committed myself and am now legally bound! They are now telling me that I owe $7000 in fees and they are going to pursue with collections and put a lien on my house. No where in any paperwork that I have says any such thing - supposedly it was somewhere on the application - that I was talked through filling it out by a representative. I didn't even fill some of the things out on it - just the stuff she said I had to in order for them to "work up" the numbers! What a scam and what a fool I am.
Thank goodness they are here to help!!! Yeah right.... in my opinion, they're just another company preying on financially desperate people. We've worked all of our lives & my husband's job was "disposed" of. Although we are both working, we are making 1/3 of what we did before - but still have the same bills - and even more since we were charging are food, medical and utility bills.
I advise everyone to stay away from this company and others like it. Call the creditors yourself and try to work things out with them first; before your credit is ruined, you're out a few thousand dollars AND you have no settlements to show for it.
Unfortunately, when I did my searches, I didn't use the abbreviated name (F.I.R.E.) and the full name, so I didn't get as many "hits" to find out all of the complaints people had. I have found people that have paid them in full and still NO settlements have been reached. I must now go through the hassle of working with legal counsel and writing letters - not to mention the stress added on to the existing stress I have of not being able to pay the original bills I needed help with! No wonder why so many people commit suicide in financial times such as these!
Please BE AWARE and research as much as you can.
