Ok, I really did not pay enough attention. Honestly, it gets harder and harder to tell the scammers from 'legit' businesses.
I started getting Septic Remedy around 2004 after we had to clean out the sewage line at a previous (75 year-old) home -to the tune of $600 +/-. We had just moved into a new 35 year-old home when they called. I'm big on preventative maintenance, and at that time, the product sounded good for the $100 price. At this stage I have bought 3 buckets total from them at their lower rate (so they said).
But, they did try to sell me more product than I was using, as I was not very diligent about using the product monthly - primarily because you can't tell if it is good or not. Besides I had researched septic maintenance as well and we knew what was going into the system this time. It did not occur to me to look up FBK, scam until today.
About two years ago I encountered the aggressive sales tactics that others are describing. They wanted to"grandfather" me in to their low rate because they were taking the product out of the residential market. I fell for that one and bought the minimum in order to avoid the assured price increase and lack of accessibility.
Last year and this year they called again with the same offer, but each time they call the reason varies slightly.
This year the calls had become persistent, and I had simply stopped answering until today. I had been doing my taxes and had come across the documentation for the services promised, so I was prepared for the call.
The caller insisted he was not in the sales department, that I was a long time customer getting special consideration; but when I told him I had the statements in front of me, he had to excuse himself for a side conversation, and we were disconnected.
I don't believe these are appropriate business techniques, and I will not be taking calls nor buying anymore product from them. Better late to getting savvy than never.
