After obtaining landscaping bids from 6 companies to do our yard my husband and I chose A1 Landscaping. Gary Gunia, the owner, is not your typical "landscaper-type person." By that, I mean, he is a very intelligent, college educated, articulate, communicative, friendly, warm and responsive professional. He was quick to grasp my needs and suprisingly perceptive in suggesting money-saving options, rather than trying to sell me things I did not need or want. He was very astute and creative in implementing a beautiful landscape design that fit our budget. My husband and I were extremely pleased with the results he produced. He installed a stamped concrete patio that was immaculate. He also installed sprinklers and sod. We have gotten so many compliments on our beautiful yard. The only problem I had was trying to figure out how he makes a profit. The workmanship was impeccable -- top quality and high-end, yet the price he charged us was ridiculously low. So low, in fact, that I initially worried about it. As the old saying goes, "ya get what ya pay for." This was not the case. The 5 other quotes I got were $11,000+. A1 charged me $7,800. When the work was complete Gary and I had gotten friendly enough for me to ask him how he managed to perform such quality work at such a low price. His response - "In these tough economic times, I feel all business owners should be committed to working within customers budgets and reducing our prices as much as possible -- especially if we want to stay in business. I am not greedy. As long as I make enough money to pay the mortgage I'm happy. I live a simple lifestyle. I don't take vacations. I don't dine out. I purchase my clothes at thrift stores. I drive an old truck that is paid for. My wife drives a 1997 Infiniti that is paid for also. I spend my free time with my wife, my 6-year-old son and my 5 dogs. We hike, play frisbee, watch movies, roller-skate, go to the park and simply enjoy family time spent together.
