I recently paid this company $979 to patent a product that I created. After recieving my money they advised me that I would need to pay an additional $2000 and up to $14,000. I immediately began to question the legitimacy of the business. I have since requested a refund of the $979. The company representative tells me that I need to sign a release form before recieving my refund. After several calls to the company, I have not yet recieved the release form. I am concerned with what the release form will entitle the company to. Is this a valid business practice and is this a legitimate business?

Frank,

You may have been scammed. When obtaining a patent, your best bet is working only with a patent attorney since they specialize in this area. Other companies such as this one, tend to milk consumers and no patents are obtained.

I suggest you file a complaint with the BBB to see about your promised refund. You may click on View BBB Report to access a complaint form.

Thank you.

Frank,

Although this message won't help you, it may be beneficial for others who need a patent: Web sites like Legal Zoom or Copyright.org have listed very reasonable prices for patents etc.
