MoonStar Management, are they Legit?
|
2/2/2010 9:00 PM (PST)
I was wondering if anyone has heard of MoonStar Management in Burbank/Hollywood or New York?
They are claiming to be a talent agency. They say they want to rep my daughter, for free, but want her to go to a "showcase" that costs $50.00. Where she and others will be seen by potential industry people.
Thanks, Eileen

Legitimate talent agents don't charge fees or ask their clients to pay anything. They receive a percentage of the earnings of the client and all the money flows in the direction of the client.

Thanks! I thought that too. They say they will represent her for free & will charge the standard 10% of her earnings. However, they have an optional "showcase" in which actors are supposed to be seen by tv/movie people that costs $50.00 They also have classes that cost. They sound more like a model/talent school, kind of like John Casablanca. I just wondered if anyone had any dealings with them. Thanks, Eileen

My daughter "showcases" for MoonStar every month in NYC, but it is $150 every time instead of $50. Does anyone else have any experience with them? I am never in the room with her when she "showcases." How do I know if the people she showcases for are even credible? I've never even met them. I am going on MoonStars word that the handful of people there are legit casting directors. According to my daughter, she slates her name, says one short commercial and then hands her resume/headshot to the 5 or so "casting directors" and then leaves. It's $150. for about 5 min, if that. It's the same every month. For all I know it could be the same 5 "casting directors" each month. I never hear anything afterward except an email giving me the date for the next showcase. Does this even sound right? Is this how a real showcasing goes?

This is a very helpful answer. I was considering sending my daughter to Moonstar. I was told my daughter needs to take pictures for $250, and $150 for each showcase. I wonder how many TV/Film directors are at showchase. Does anybody have successful stories with Moonstar?
